'Pretty much the coolest city we have been to in America'

Helloooo everyone.

We have safely arrived in Vancouver and have been loving every second exploring this beautiful city hence the delayed post about our final destination of San Francisco!

San Fransisco - we think it should be renamed to 'pretty much the coolest city we have been to in America', a slightly long city name but we think it has a nice ring to it haha.

We stayed at an awesome Air B n B in a area called sunset district and were hosted by an awesome couple called Bethany and Luke. They even left chocolates and vegan treats for us to enjoy along with a sneaky bottle of red (ski was pumped) and their best suggestions of what to do in San Fransisco. Ski and I said hello and shook hands. We must have looked like silly buggers as we both tried to shake hands at a distance due to the fresh off the campsite smell we had acquired.  Its fair to say the first things we did at San Francisco was have a shower.

1st full day at San Fran involved an early get up to go and explore Alcatraz. We left at 7.30 for our 9.30 crossing to the island, we were worried about traffic. We reached our destination at 8.00am (slightly early), collected our tickets without a hitch  had a coffee, followed by our favourite pastime - people watching. Alcatraz was absolutely amazing, we arrived slightly windswept on the island as i made ski sit on the outer deck of the boat ;). We trucked up the island to the prison, to collect our audio walking tour, this was so so coool, the tour took you around the prison with detailed descriptions about the fights and prison escapes that happened, it felt like you were in the prison with the prisoners. At one stage i swear i could have sworn ski jumped wth fright. At the end of the 1 hour tour ski turned to me and said right thats it we can now leave america, theres two things that Cloughy said you have to do in USA, gamble in Las Vegas and visit Alcatraz, we have now done both lets go!! haha. After a bit more exploring we caught the boat back and explored Pier 33.

We spent the afternoon wandering down pier 33 before heading home to research where we could listen to some live music for the night. We went and had a few beers followed by some hot spicy chicken wings and headed to club deluxe for some live Jazz and some red wines, Ski was in his element and I swear his foot didn't stop tapping the whole set :), it was awesome! One of the below pictures was such a cool little shop and reminded me of you Thai! It had a station where you could make your own potted plants!! If only i could have sent one back cause they were so totally cool!

The next morning we decided its about time we did a spot of shopping!! Ski gave me a time limit of 5 minutes per shop. Fellow shoppers will understand that this was going to be a real tough mission but i accepted willingly if it meant I could get inside a clothing shop. We spent the day wandering down a street called Filmore Street before heading to Fishermans wharf where we tried the mighty famous In and Out Burger!! and Emma you were so right it was one of the best takeaways we have ever had, so worth the greasy fingers and long wait! We then headed off to the AT&T Stadium to watch the famous San Fransico Giants take on the Cincinnati Reds. This was one our favourite experiences of the entire trip, we loaded up on Garlic Fries, Hotdogs, M & M's peanuts and coke - when in Rome right ;) and found our slightly far away seats. The distance didn't matter because we loved every second almost as much as the food!

Our last day in San Franciso was a mixed bag of emotions, super excited to be heading to our next adventure Vancouver but also so sad to be saying goodbye to Louise and to leave America. We decided to explore the sunset area we were staying at a bit more before our flight at 4pm.  We stumbled across a flight of 196 beautifully tiled stairs, decided to take them on, took a few pictures, and then somehow I encouraged ski to of a final spot of shopping with 10 minutes allowed per shop down Haight Street. The Street was like an a cooler version of Cuba Street in Wellington except in this town some one was a celebrity...Ski.  Ski's dress code for the day was casual/rocker - he was repping a rolling stones t-shirt and boy did this t-shirt get some attention! every alternative looking character/homeless person looked at ski with a little grin as he walked past, go the stones maaaaan, siiiiiick t-shirt brooooo, did you see the stones in europe dude? he even got a high 5 on his way down the street. Lets just say Ski's step picked up with a little bit more confidence and he was grinning the whole down Haight Street, he was even putting out his hands for free high fives. Just joking Ski was very embarrassed and wanted to go and change his t-shirt haha

Ski asked me to make sure i type this part into the blog - he had the most epic sandwich for breakfast one morning in San Fran - and I had to take a really good close picture so that he can tell Josh about how much cheddar cheese was in that sandwhich. The whole entire breakfast all i heard was Millie Josh would love this! :) we miss you folk a bit i think!

We then trucked it to the international airport in San Fransico and dropped off our beloved Louise. On the way we both devised every possible option of how we could sneak Louise over the boarder to Vancouver but to no success we had to sadly drop her off. Poor Lass. I could have sworn there was a tear in Ski's eye ;) We got through America customs and finally boarded our flight to Vancouver. It was a very surreal experience flying into Vancouver as we realised this was actually our new home. We had arrived - two kiwis ready to create a new adventure.
