We made it..

Hi guys,

Millie here, we have finally started our adventure and have touched down in Los Angeles.

First step was to get through Customs, this was a breeze so much easier that what we both expected. Ski didn't even get questioned if there was anything hidden in his beard haha.

We then bused from the LAX Airport to the car rental place and was told by the lovely assistant that we can go to Row 5 and pick what ever SUV car we wanted. Imagine a car rental place with the flashiest biggest pimped out cars, we opted for a spacious black Santa Fe, we named her Louise

Tired after our flight to Auckland ;)

Next step was to attempt driving on the right hand side of the road. Lets just say our communication skills had to be on point. Ski the driver and Millie the navigator. After nearly turning into the left hand side numerous times and running one red light its fair to say Ski now has the driving nailed.

We safely made it to our destination of Longbeach around 4.30pm. We checked in, dropped our packs off and set out to explore the area. The area we were staying at was called the retro row and boy this place was so funky, the streets were filled with little coffee shops. boutique clothes store and hipsters. Ski fitted in quite nicely here! We wandered the streets and shared a margareta pizza for dinner before we walked back home and completely crashed. We had both never slept as well as what we did that night!

Day 2 at Long Beach. First we went to Target and stocked up our car with the cheapest camping gear we could find and then made our way to the BEACH for a whole day sunbathing and swimming. We picked the right day because the temperatures got up to 29degrees! Ski and I walked home on cloud nine, had the best day at the bach until we realised we had completely underestimated the sun over here. We were both as burnt as tomatoes! Lesson number one - must wear sunscreen over here. The sun is not on holiday like us hahaha.

Day 3 = DISNEYLAND!!

The biggest amusement park in the world really lived up to its name. Our first challenge of the day was parking the car and deciding what shuttle we were to get on to get to the actual park. We jumped out of the car guns blazing with so much excitement that we completely forgot to look at what lot we had parked the car in. The end of the day was going to be a challenge haha. Walking through disneyland was like a dream come true, i was definitely more vocal about my excitement than ski I couldn't help but squeal whenever i saw a new disney princess or Winnie the pooh. Our first ride was a calm boat ride around adventure land to warm ourselves up for what was to come, followed by India Jones (this was my favourite ride). Skis favourite ride was the kids roller coaster just kidding it was quite a scary roller coaster followed by splash mountain. The name says it all we got saturated! The wait times for these rides were only 10 - 15 minutes, Ski and i both thought to ourselves, this is great! we have the best luck. Our luck ran out come lunchtime where we waited for an hour to go in a submarine to find nemo followed by another hours wait to ride the hyper space mountain. The wait time was well worth it, the rides were amazing.

The food was also something out of a fairytale, turkey legs, chimichangas and toffee apples. Its fair to say we both enjoyed our chimichangas haha. We ended the day by watching Mickey Mouse and friends parade down the main street. This was amazing! we got to sit right at the front next to all the children and got the best views of all the disney characters. After an exhausting day being kids we left disneyland and shuttled back to get our car. Lesson number two always check where you have left the car. We wandered around aimlessly searching for our car before we realised that Louise was right in front of us! haha our feet were not too impressed.

Day 4 at long beach was pack up day. Next stop LAS VEGAS. Ski will write the next post as the casinos have been calling his name. The references to Oceans 11 have already started.

Love Millie (and Ski). xxxx
