We didn't choose the camp life, the camp life chose us...

We drive through yet another set of gated booths which quite frankly are everywhere here in the USA. Its really weird. However, we again flash our national park pass unlocking the little gem that is Yosemite Valley. We were beyond excited and quickly took in views of jaw dropping scenery. We took time to plan a hike for the next day and after some time mucking about trying to find information, trying to park, and navigating the seas of people, eventually we made our pick. We were on the John Mist trail early and beat the crowds. The 6 oclock start was well worth it as parking was a breeze and we had the trail to ourselves. Having walked long enough to get a sweat up, we were then showered by the spray of a massive waterfall as we clambered up the slippery steps. We both got drenched but continued up the trail. After six hours of trekking sometimes in the wrong direction, seeing two amazing waterfalls, spotting the half dome, and also seeing loads of wildlife we completed the trail. We retreated to our humble abode- Sweet water camp ground. After patching up a small whole in the airbed we had a good night sleep.

We talked about doing another trail the next day, but we woke up to a slight drizzle, and decided it would be nicer in our next destination - South Lake Tahoe. So without checking the weather we started our journey north. Louise roared into action and before we knew it we were at 7000 feet above sea level and it was snowing. We have now begun checking weather forecasts. A themed Tahoe chalet was to be our hideout for the night which turned out to be pretty funny. The snow hadn't thawed by morning but the roads had been cleared. Emerald bay was the perfect arena for a snow fight which I dominated and then also proved a brilliant spot for photos of the lake. The snow on the hills and the enormous lake have a feel of Taupo, but the South Lake Tahoe itself is more like A big scale Ohakune. Lodges, ski rentals and bars fill the main drag. In the afternoon we went to a cool old mining town called Truckee on the north western edge of the lake. A walk through the main drag provided boutiquey shops and crafty bars in which we were happy to indulge. Millie said how much her mum would love it here, and I thought that Megan could probably live in some of the cool shops we looked in.

We made it to our next camp site where we spent some time lounging in Louise next to the lake. Until an old foe reared its ugly head, the airbed once again hissed like a rattle snake and we had to repatch it. The patch felt like a sturdy job, However not long after starting my spot on movie choice - The Notebook (such a classic) the airbed needed more air as our bumbs felt the hard surface of the laid flat seat backs. Sleep was a precious commodity within the next few, and we woke up feeling under the weather. But the sun was out so we planned a picnic lunch by the lake along with some well practiced frisbee. Again we tackled the airbed issue and managed to pad the laid out seats with some miscellaneous items. Towels, a blanket and our pillows made up our our underlay mattress and packing cells full of clothes were utilised as head rests. Feeling hopeful with these sleeping arrangements, we had another shit sleep to be fair. Having a wash was another precious commodity which we sometimes went without. Sneaking into other more expensive camp sites for showers become one of our favourite past times. But having missed a day here and there meant we were both super excited to get under a constant stream of hot water. So as we leave Lake Tahoe for a final destination in the USA - San Fransisco, Millie hits me with a classic would you rather question. "Would you rather sleep in a bed tonight and not shower? Or Shower but sleep in the back of Louise as it was last night? For me it was easy, sleep in a bed and shower tomorrow. It was also simple for Millie however on the contrary to my answer. But I must say lying on a comfortable bed after having had a log hot shower is something special.

Good Night Everyone
Ski (& Millie)
